The Kansas Sampler Foundation put out a call for outstanding getaway packages to be sold on E-bay as a fundraiser for the Foundation. The community of Garnett's getaway package was chosen to be used for the ten-day auction. In the end, Bunny McCloud of Wamego had the high bid of $1,284 which went to the Kansas Sampler Foundation.
Bunny, and husband Gary McCloud, were in Garnett in mid-September to enjoy the getaway package. The package included a two-night stay for four people at the George Washburn-designed Kirk House bed-and-breakfast, an airplane ride over the county, a party for 24 friends with live music, a community dinner-theater production, meals, shopping money, tours, and more.
Foundation director Marci Penner said, "This was a win-win-win for everyone. Garnett received great exposure for their historic town, the McClouds and friends had a memorable weekend, and the Kansas Sampler Foundation got a sustaining boost."
