WELCOME!

Hey, thanks for stopping in to check out our Kansas Explorers Club page. We hope to inspire people to get out and around the state and appreciate Kansas...and to have some fun doing it.

If you sign on the bottom line, we'll send you six print newsletters a year. We're on the road a lot ourselves checking out cool things in towns, doing programs, and figuring out how to keep towns going so the timing of the newsletters might not be exactly regular but you'll get six of them by the end of the year. And they'll be full of trip ideas, new ways to look at adventuring in Kansas, and thematic suggestions.

EXPLORER MINDSET

We're so obsessed with eating (and drinking) at locally-owned restaurants and cafes, microbreweries and bakeries, that we even have people going on food quests -- like eating a pancake in every county. We even have an Explorer Way chicken-fried steak (fresh meat, hand breaded and pan-or-grill fried). We have lots of suggestions for adventure enhancements. Here are just three!

Tune into our newsletter for more tips on how to maximize your time on the road!

OUR CAMPAIGN

Right now we've launched a campaign to have 2,019 current and card-carrying Explorers by 2019.  We've had more than 6,500 people sign up since 1994 but people move, forget to renew, or it escapes one's memory about how fun it is to explore! We're trying to moo-ve people into renewing or joining so that more people will get to know how addicting it can be to take some back roads and poke around in the nooks and crannies of our state. Plus, the great added bonus of being a member is that your fee also helps support the good work of the Kansas Sampler Foundation.

This cow herd in Ottawa County is watching to see if you'll join up. They're going to stick around until we get to the magic number. Keep coming back here to see the progress or look on the Explorer Facebook page.

A LITTLE PROJECT

We love this state so much that we took parts of four years to go to every incorporated city in Kansas.  Luckily, there are only 626. Then we wrote the Kansas Guidebook 2 for Explorers to make it easy for all of you to find your way around the state.  480 pages. 4,500 entries including more than 800 locally-owned restaurants. Over 1,600 color pictures. 26 index pages. And every single set of directions has been proofed and double-checked!

If you don't have the book yet, you can go to the nearest store that carries the book or order it online from us at the Kansas Sampler Foundation. We don't sell the book on Amazon to help drive your business to a locally-owned store (they get 40% of the sale) or directly to us (helps pay for the printing bill). We even had it printed in Kansas, at Mennonite Press in Newton.

The guidebook, the Kansas Explorers Club, it's all about helping meet the mission of the Kansas Sampler Foundation:  to preserve and sustain rural culture. Big words that just mean we want to help sustain Kansas communities and with your help we can make a dent in that goal!
