Hansel receives We Kan! award

Shelly Hansel of SCTelcom was surprised with a We Kan! award July 22 in downtown Anthony.

The presentation was made by Marci Penner of the Kansas Sampler Foundation. The Inman-based non-profit has been choosing recipients every year since 1993 to show appreciation for dedicated work in helping preserve and sustain rural culture. Hansel’s award had the words “Loud and Proud for Kansas” engraved on a round plate made by artist Stacy Barnes of Greensburg.

Penner said, “Shelly has been one of Kansas's great advocates and cheerleaders since I first met her in the early 1990s. No matter what job or position she is in, she grabs the reins with enthusiasm, energy and experience to give it her all and make it better. To say Shelly is passionate about whatever she is involved in would be an understatement."

With planning help from Kari O'Riley, Harper County Community Development, ten friends and co-workers gathered to surprise Hansel, who thought she was attending a meeting.
