Status: Full-Time | Remote | 

Start Date: December 2025 

Salary with Benefit Stipend: $50-60,000 dependent on experience  

Reports to: Executive Director  

About the Role: If you love exploring Kansas and see how that activity can make a difference and if you are open to interacting with “the locals”, seeing Kansas with new eyes, and cultivating a thoughtful audience for rural, then this role could be for you. As Program Manager for our “Explore Kansas” work, you’ll engage Kansans in meaningful explorations of their own state. You’ll steward the Kansas Explorers Club, coordinate the Big Kansas Road Trip Pop Ups and develop compelling content to connect people to the heart of rural Kansas. This is more than a program role - it’s a chance to help shape the way Kansans see themselves and each other. Through every newsletter, event, and story, you’ll be promoting rural vitality and helping communities feel seen, valued, and connected.  

Core Responsibilities  

• Manage the Kansas Explorers Club, including subscription management and content creation through new programming  

• Lead all communications and logistics for the Big Kansas Road Trip Pop Ups  

• Coordinate guidebook content updates and support online guidebook development  

• Conduct Road Trip research and documentation. This role requires approximately 40-50% in-state travel to Kansas communities  

• Write engaging print newsletters and e-newsletters, social media content, and event promotions • Work closely with staff to transition legacy content and program assets  

• Collaborate with teammates on rural sustainability projects, outreach, and growth strategy  

Ideal Candidate  

• Passionate about Kansas and elevating rural stories and experiences  

• Strong creative writing, graphic design, public speaking, and project management skills  

• Experience with community engagement or tourism programming preferred  

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, as this role involves managing web content, explorer club memberships, and digital logistics alongside creative communications  

• Self-starter comfortable working remotely in a fast-paced environment  

• Creative, warm, and curious about people and places off the beaten path
