Sarah Kessinger, editor and publisher of the Marysville Advocate, was surprised with a We Kan! award September 25 in the offices of the Marysville Advocate.
The presentation was made by Marci Penner and WenDee Rowe of the Kansas Sampler Foundation. The Inman-based non-profit has been choosing recipients every year since 1993 to show appreciation for dedicated work in helping preserve and sustain rural culture. Kessinger’s award had the words “Front and Center” engraved on a round plate made by artist Stacy Barnes of Greensburg.
Penner said, “To keep a newspaper thriving and keep the story going, to volunteer, to help promote activities, to participate in community activities, to be a family here, all these things and more are what make Sarah such a good force, in her soft-spoken way, for the community."
Sarah is the third of ten to receive the We Kan! award in 2025. The first two were Shelly Hansel of Harper County and Caryl Hale of Norton . To see a list of all previous We Kan! award winners go to kansassampler.org.
