The Kansas Sampler Foundation is hosting a "do-alogue" on Rethinking Design with Intention at the Winter School near Lecompton on August 28 from 10a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will take place at the Winter School, a one-room schoolhouse and nonprofit. Katie Winter and Megan Embers will share how they created an updated space to respond to the modern needs of visitors and users of this 1870s building. They will share as well about their mission which is to create a space where the origins and evolutions of education through the arts & humanities can be explored.
Winter School is on the National Register of Historic Places yet adheres to modern guidelines and needs such as ADA. This is an ideal do-alogue if you have an older space (one room school house, church, jail) perhaps and would like to breathe new life into the space while honoring its past.
The purpose of a Do-alogue is to bring a small group to a site where something excellent is happening see the project, ask questions, and learn the details from those who are doing the work so you can go home ready for action (or doing). This one is for community leaders and doers who want to learn how to redesign an older building into a more modern space that can be used with specific intention.
Lunch is included with the $30 registration. Attendees must register at tinyurl.com/Rethinkschool. Questions can be directed to Simone Elder, KSF project manager, at simone.elder@kansassampler.org.
